Good morning from what looks like a slightly drier Somerset than yesterday! I say it ‘looks like’, as my eyes appear to have slight trouble fully focusing this morning. I have to make the shocking admission that I write this to you from within what I fear must, and indeed can only, be described as something approaching quite an acute reaction to a slight over indulgence in the evil of drink. The excuse for this appalling situation is the celebration last night of a great mate of mines 60th birthday. From what I can recall I’m quite confident that his head may well be worse than mine!
It has been a fantastically busy week at The Smokery with the new website going great guns and so far the lovely feedback is a huge relief! It is the third of October which in itself is quite a shocking state of affairs but it does mean that I can introduce you to the October Box, this month it has been chosen and put together by the Master Smokers that are Tim and Will and contains the following goodies: –
200g Classic Cold Smoked Salmon
1 x Whole Hot Smoked Duck Breast
And a gift from the boys of a very classy magnetic bottle opener!!
As ever all this will be delivered to a door of your choosing for £35.
Finally, I am positively bursting to tell you some fantastic, happy news that happened this week. Tim, sometimes known as Bodge, has been working with me for 15 years since he was 18. I think I can safely say that we have been through an awful lot together. Some of it amazing, some of it beyond sad and an awful lot of it great fun and hard work. He is Godfather to Stan, the youngest and possibly maddest of the loons, and is quite simply as good a friend and lieutenant as a chap could ever have wished for. On Wednesday night he messaged me from his log cabin in Wales to say that his wonderful girl Jade had agreed to marry him. I was standing in a car park at the time and received rather too many concerned stares as I wept as only I can! Stan is beyond excited as he is convinced he can be a “bridesmaid”?! Mrs P and I are simply over the moon for them both as are the whole crew here, the only downside being that with another drink fuelled celebration on Monday or Tuesday I may well write two rambles in a week rather less than at my Sunday best!
