Holiday planning & Friendly Feast

Good morning from a slightly cooler Somerset. We were actually lucky enough to have pretty much a whole day of rain on Friday which has made things a good deal cooler and it would appear, according to Mrs P, means that the mower will be needing its first outing for over a week! The floors of Pattisson Towers appear to be covered in egg shells as with three of the loons having broken up and utterly exhausted my ability to apparently walk into a room or even tie my shoelace in what is apparently perceived as the wrong way can produce withering looks, huge sighs and in one case a diatribe on how apparently I carried out such actions solely to wind up the grumpy loon that was lying in wait! Mrs P and I have donned our hard hats and hope upon hope that a weekend of doing nothing and lots of sleep will improve the atmosphere somewhat by the middle of next week!?

We are lucky enough to be heading off to France a week today for a couple of weeks which means that Mrs P is in full organisation mode. You can’t move for spider maps, road atlas’s, European plug adaptors and the most ridiculous number of lists! The lists are the things that most worry me as they appear to all be given to me and it appears are for me to action, carry out and complete. This is of course fine but in reality the reason I’ve never been a fan of lists is because I find I start them with every good intention and then get distracted and turn my attention to something more pressing. By the time I realise my error I have lost the original list, blatantly and not entirely honestly assured Mrs P it is done and complete and am then presented with another one of different jobs. Having been married for nearly 22 years you might have thought that she would have realised I am not a list man, but no, it will of course end up in lots of rather unpleasant scenes where the words “you told me you had done that” are repeated over and over again at increasingly loud volume in the three hours before we are intending to leave! All in all it could be a rather long week ahead!

With the madness of the heat in the first half of the week it was a quiet one at The Smokery with food being the furthest thing from most peoples minds as no one is hungry in over 30 degree heat. However, with the drop in the temperatures I’m delighted to say that things picked up a bit towards the end of the week. Tim, Amber and I decided we would like to do a big box offer to sit alongside our BBQ Box and all chose two or three of our favourite things to go inside. The idea is that it covers all the basics for meeting up with friends, family gatherings and with alfresco dining in mind.

We have called it our FRIENDLY FEASTING BOX and it contains the following: –

300g Hot Smoked Trout

750g Whole Baked Ham

400g Classic Cold Smoked Salmon

2 x Hot Smoked Chicken Breasts

200g Oak Roasted Salmon Pate

1 x Bottle of Gris Marin Delicious Rose

All delivered to any door of your choosing for £75 which is a saving of 20% and hopefully ticks a lot of boxes for summer gatherings and alfresco fun. We can of course deliver to any holiday cottages or homes you may be lucky enough to be heading to direct so no need to lug it all with you on holiday if space is an issue. All can be ordered online at www.brownandforrest.co.uk or call Amber in the office on 01458 250875 from 9am tomorrow morning.

I must away as the pile of lists is growing ever larger and I have been told I will be left behind next week if they are not completed!

Hope you have a restful Sunday.

My very, very best regards,

Jess
